Metric Number: 3.2.1 QlM. Institution has created an ecosystem for innovations, Indian Knowledge System (IKS), including awareness about IPR, establishment of IPR cell, Incubation center and other initiatives for the creation and transfer of knowledge/technology and the outcomes of the same are evident.

City Engineering College (CEC) has established Institution Innovation Council (CEC-IIC IC202219125) in the year 2021-22 under AICTE, approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE). CEC has organized Conference/Workshops/ Seminars/ Webinars/Technical Talk on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, making the students community more passionate towards Entrepreneurial activities. The institution has conducted AICTE sponsored Faculty Development Programs and program funded by both AICTE and Ministry of Education (MoE)- a Prime Minister’s initiative program on vision 2047 – “Amrit Kaal Mahostsav-Viksit Bharat 2047”.  To encourage the students to come up with creative and innovative ideas, VTU has incorporated courses on Innovation and Design Thinking in first year. Since CEC adheres to VTU syllabus, the students learnt the concept of design thinking for product and service development, fundamentals of innovation and design thinking including the methods of implementing the same in the real world.

CEC has taken various initiatives for creation and transfer of knowledge to the students by organizing Field Trips, Industrial Visits in order to give them practical knowledge. CEC encourages students to take research-oriented projects under the guidance of faculty in order to cultivate innovative skills. These projects have been funded by KSCST and VTU. Project Exhibition and Hackathon programs were conducted regularly so as to encourage the creativity of the student leading to Innovation.

Indian Knowledge System (IKS)- India has a rich heritage and traditional knowledge in the field of Arts, Literature, Agriculture, Mathematics, Astronomy, Numerology, Medicine, Architecture, Economics, different regional languages, music, dance, Engineering and Technology and so on. In order to preserve the Indian ancient traditional knowledge, VTU has mandated credit courses in the curriculum such as Social Connect and Responsibilities, NSS, Samskrutika Kannada for students who speak, read and write Kannada and Balake Kannada for non-Kannada speaking, reading and writing students. The faculty members are encouraged to handle these subjects so as to cater the knowledge of Indian culture through participative learning.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) CEC has organized workshops/Seminars related to IPR, Entrepreneurship etc., to transfer the knowledge among the students and faculties through Institution Innovation Council. To further bolster its IPR initiatives, CEC has Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell which acts as a central hub for all matters related to intellectual property, offering guidance, assistance and support to researchers and innovators within the institution.

CEC’s commitment to knowledge creation and transfer extends beyond its campus through strategic collaborations with industry partners, organizations and other academic institutions. These partnerships facilitate the exchange of ideas and expertise, leading to joint research projects, technology transfer agreements and collaborative ventures. Such initiatives are integral to bridging the gap between academia and industry ensuring that the research and innovations developed at CEC have practical and impactful applications.
